Getting stuck in
It’s a forward-looking issue of EURObiZ this month. Gavin Blair covers three innovative and successful start-ups: online translation, unusual ad placement and augmented reality. Who says Tokyo is a difficult place for entrepreneurs?
Looking ahead, too, is Martin Foster’s article on wind power. He finds that development of the energy source could offer opportunities for EU companies, and even be part of reconstruction in northern Japan.
Looking to the future with more concern is Kathy Matsui, analyst at Goldman Sachs and an expert on “Womenomics”. She tells David McNeill how higher female participation in the work place is essential for Japan to avoid its “train wreck” demographic crisis.
At Unilever Japan, however, one in four managers is female. For more on the company – including its ambitious growth and sustainability targets – please see our Investing in Japan profile. We also have a report on the company’s volunteering trip to northern Japan.
To coincide with the 150th anniversary of trade relations between Japan and Germany we interview German Chamber president Otto Benz. He describes the work of the GCCIJ and the past and future of economic relations between the two powerhouses. “Japan is a mature market with excellent profit margins for companies doing the right business in the right way,” he tells EURObiZ. “There are still opportunities to invest in this market.”
